Product Care Tips
We are proud of the furniture that we supply and understand that our customers expect only the highest-quality furniture from us. We also understand that our furniture needs caring for to preserve its natural beauty and to protect the investment that solid wood furniture represents.
All of our furniture is protected by the finish (Oil, Lacquer, etc) which helps to offset the damage that moisture, dirt and regular use will bring. Over time, however, the finish may degrade or become damaged. This can be resolved by re-finishing, or simply wiping down the furniture, depending on which type of finish has been used.
Consideration must also be given to the environment that the furniture inhabits.
Exposure to sunlight brings with it the energy and temperature needed to degrade the finishes and colorants in the wood, often turning a clear finish yellow with prolonged exposure. This damage is cumulative and irreversible without stripping down and refinishing the furniture.
The relative humidity of the environment should also be monitored as wood responds to humidity by expanding and contracting whilst it tries to maintain the balance between the moisture in the wood and the relative humidity of its environment. Our furniture has been designed with this in mind, but every care should be taken not to leave furniture in areas that will experience drastic changes in humidity, such as in front of fireplaces, basements, etc.
Basic Tips:
- Avoid putting furniture in direct sunlight and use tablecloths wherever possible.
- Avoid areas of extreme humidity such as fireplaces, heating vents, etc.
- Regular dusting removes buildup that could damage the finish.
- Polish every few months following the grain on the furniture to help prevent scratching.
Note: it is always a good idea to polish the furniture immediately after purchasing as the furniture may have
been in storage for a long time.
- Never put any liquid in direct contact with the table, always use a coaster to prevent water-marks and damage.
